BEATON Family Reunion

I am going to my Scottish family reunion in Victoria Australia in June this year and as it will be winter there I was thinking of buying a tartan scarf or gloves or something warm. Is there any protocol for buying tartan when you don't know the family tartan?
I have seen some nice tartans around but I wouldn't want to offend anyone by wearing the worng one.

Hi Tracy,

I personally wear my family tartans (mainly because I like them), but I see no reason you can't wear a tartan of your liking.

Beaton and Thomson both have their own tartans.

Thanks Ina I appreciate that, I never thought of looking for Thomson Tartan, I like it.
Do you know of any online stores I could buy from all I seem to ba able to get here in Oz are football team tartans.

My 6 x great grandmother Margaret Ferguson c1744 from Lasswade I am searching, I don't have any other information though although she married John Patterson.

If you do a google search for Scottish shops in your area, I'm sure you will find someone who can order tartan items for you.
