Tall order?
Hi,
Need urgent help with this one if anyone has any ideas.
My sister's mother in law has just died suddenly abroad. They're bringing her back to Scotland next week for burial. They want to bury her with her first child who died in infancy - the problem is, noone can remember where she was buried.
All anyone can remember is she was born c1965 and died c1967 in Glasgow. I've just managed to find her death record on SP - but of course, I can't just download it, I have to order it - and I don't think we have time to wait for it to arrive and see if the burial place is listed on there. What if it isn't?
They think she may have been cremated in Drumchapel? Or Drumrye? Or something like that - are there any burial registers online for the Glasgow area that recent?
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks
Ann

Re: Tall order?
Hi Ann,
Sorry to hear about your sister in law.
Hopefully somebody will be visiting a Family History Centre and look at the death entry for you but it won't tell you the burial place.
What was the GROS number indexed for the death entry? Have you tried looking at newspapers for a family notice? If you want to PM me with details I'll have a look too.
Regards,
Annette

Re: Tall order?
Just had a thought. If she was cremated she may not have a burial place but more likely a memorial at the crematorium. Glasgow City Council should be able to help and I'm sure if you explain the circumstances they will try their best to get the info quickly.

Annette

Yes, I think you're on the right track. Someone's just remembered something about a plac (can't think how to spell that word right now!
) somewhere near a crematorium.
Just got some numbers to try tomorrow.
God, it's so much easier finding long dead ancestors!
Thanks for your help, Ann

Re: Tall order?
Thank you again, Annette. I've just tried too. Got nowhere.
I'm going to try ringing them this morning to see if they'll tell me anything (I'm only an in law, so they may not).
Thanks for your efforts, they're really very much appreciated.
Regards
Ann

Re: Tall order?
Greetings from New Zealand.
If that question was to arise here in NZ, the first place I would go is the Undertakers, and the local paper archives. It's their business and I have always found them very helpful. I've had to arrange/assist with quite a number of funerals, with different Undertakers, and have also been assisted by them with family history research. Even when an Undertaker goes out of business, quite often the records have been acquired by another, still practising, Undertaker.
All the best,
Alan SHARP.

Hi Alan,
Yes, I agree, the undertakers would be a good bet. However, there's no one around who remembers which undertaker's they used anymore.
As I say, I'm going to ring about a bit today and see if I can't find her through the official channels.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Best wishes,
Ann

Re: Tall order?
Is it Dalnottar? That was my first thought. It is a lovely cemetery nestled in the Old Kilpatrick hills & adjacent or facing the Crematorium-I was born about a ten minute walk from there.
