Can anybody help me with a street location in Glasgow?
I have just found out that some relations from about 1890/91 lived at 1 Argyle Street, Maryhill Glasgow.
I have tried looking on multi maps but can't seem to find it.
would this house or address still be there?
I would love some information.
Many thanks
John McCrea.

Argyle Street might now be Kilmun Street. Thats my best guess till someone who knows the area comes along to answer you.

Re: Glasgow
Hi John, Argyle St, Maryhill, was renamed Kilmun St.so as not to be confused with the Argyle St in the centre of Glasgow.(by the way Kilmun happens to be in Argyllshire)

Re: Glasgow
Hi John, sorry if i confused you. Maryhill is in Glasgow.Kilmun is a small village on the Holy Loch in Argyllshire, and i just wondered if there was an interesting reason as to why Argyle St was changed to Kilmun St .Maybe someone else will be able to explain the connection.

Re: Glasgow
Hi David,
You have answered my questions fully, Thank You. now I know where my relatives lived, but I now have to sort out a program to view this street in Glasgow. I did try tonight, but it was "Download this or download that" and I just lost interest in the end....
I do remember going onto a map site months ago, and it gave me a street view where you could zoom around etc... but I can't remember what site or map site it was!!
very many thanks David for the information.

Re: Glasgow
Google Street View is probably what you're looking for but I'm afraid Kilmun Street today looks nothing like it would have in 1891.
You can see how the area looked at the time by visiting The Virtual Mitchell site

Hi David.
you have given me so much information tonight, how can I ever Thank You?
aslo, thanks for the link to the old pictures of Maryhill Glasgow.
so, are you saying that number 1 Arglye Street does not stand today?? as it did in 1890/93ish?
as I did see a up to date picture if it tonight, but just wondering if it was the same house that my relatives lived in at the time.
Best Wishes
John McCrea.

Re: Glasgow
Hello John,
Kilmun Street, Glasgow, doesn’t look very Victorian. It looks horribly 50’s. http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&i ... 17,,0,4.49
It looks like Kilmun Street was blown to pieces during the Blitz and nearly 100 people killed. It happened 70 years ago last week. Here’s what the houses looked like before the war. http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... street.htm
All the best,
Alan
