place name
i wondered if anyone could help? i have a marriage in stornoway scotland the brides abode has question marks by it and it does not make sense it is dalbeg?? can anyone make any sense of this name ? anything remotely close? with thanks.

Can you give us the names and precise date for the marriage please? Where have you seen this name written - was it on the OPR or was it a transcription?

Hopefully this is the right Dalbeg that I have found. See the following map.

From Stornoway, pass the arrowhead in the centre of the map and go to the Atlantic coast and you will find what I believe to be Dail Beag (presumably anglicised to Dalbeg). If I have found the right translation in my dictionary it means small field or plain.
