British West Indian Imperial Force

Post by AileenA » Sun May 15, 2011 9:04 pm

Hello
I'm trying to help a friend who's researching men who are named on the war memorial in WW1 Crail, Fife. The local history group are trying to put a background to the men and build up a picture of who they were and a bit about their lives. One of the men served with the British West Indian Imperial Force, has anyone idea on where I could find info on this force? :?
Had so much help from this group in the past so hoping you can help.
Many thanks
Aileen

Hello Aileen,

Why don't you start by browsing www.scottishwarmemorials.com which is run by one of our members, Adam.

This is a direct link which will take to to the Craill Civic Memorial Thread: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtop ... warmemscot

Not a lot of information about any of the men in particular, but some nice photos.

If you go to this link: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtop ... warmemscot you will find a complete list of all Fife's memorials and it looks as though Craill Church and a few others (Royal British Legion Memorials) have not yet been added to the forum.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_India_Regiment .

As we're talking WWI, you should have a look at, and maybe make a post on the Great War forum at http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forum ... hp?act=idx .

Hello Aileen,

There are assorted references to the regiment in Google News Archive. Just click the period of interest in the timeline.

West India Regiment.

A search of the Commonwealth War Graves site will bring up some, but probably not all WW1 deaths. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=%22we ... mages&tbs=
