Scottish Handwriting

Post by steiner » Thu May 19, 2011 10:48 am

Can anyone recommend or suggest any book or othe publication that an amateur family historian can read up on and learn about understanding /deciphering old Scottish Handwriting from say early period - until 1800?

thanks

Andy

Lesley's suggestion is probably the best bet. There is also Grant Simpson's Scottish Handwriting 1150-1650 which I think is now out of print or the Scottish Records Association's Scottish Handwriting 1500-1700: a self-help pack.

Thank you Lesley and Eric. I'll take a look at both.

Sorry. Must have been having a brain dead moment. I meant to type Amazon! Now I've been away for just over a week and you must think I've been deliberately ignoring your question. Mea culpa!!
