2/4th cameron highlanders
just wondering if anyone knows anything about the 2/4th cameron highlanders battalion. just trying to get some info on them for my gran as her dad was in it. hopefully some on can give me a timetable or dates of where they were at certain times and what happened to some of the soliders in it. even a list fo battels they fought in, just a little something so i can get back to my gran, she would really appreciate it.

Re: 2/4th cameron highlanders
Hello Gary,
This page on the Long Long Trail site lists all the WW1 battalions of the Cameron Highlanders and has a short history of each. http://www.1914-1918.net/cameron.htm
2/4th Battalion
Formed at Inverness in September 1914 as a second line battalion.
January 1915 : attached to 2nd Seaforth & Cameron Highlanders Brigade, 2nd Highland Division. Moved to Fort George in April 1915 and Blair Atholl in July, going to Aberfeldy in October 1915.
October 1915 : formation became 191st Brigade in 64th (2nd Highland) Division.
Was called No 3 Battalion between November 1915 and January 1916.
Moved to Norwich in March 1916, going on to Blickling Park (June), Kelling (July) and Cromer (October 1916). Disbanded in February 1918.
It therefore seems that it never left the UK, and for your ancestor, was just a stepping-stone to another battalion elsewhere.
I’ll put a copy of this and a bit more shortly on your original thread otherwise bits of your enquiry will end up scattered about everywhere. viewtopic.php?f=32&p=129285&sid=3b0e447 ... 0d#p129285
All the best,
Alan
