Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me find some old pictures of st andrews drive or even 33a st andrews drive back the the old days in Glasgow. My GT GT grandparents lived there and i was hoping there might be some pictures of the place back in the day.
Gary.

Hi Gary,
Have a look in the 'Virtual Mitchell' website. They have many images of old Glasgow.
http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/virtualm ... &s=gallery
Use the 'street search'. There are a few results for St Andrews Drive.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hello Gary,
The area does seem to have been a bit up-market. Here are some adverts from the Glasgow Herald concerning some neighbouring properties which will hopefully give a bit of an idea of what was once there. I couldn't find anything for No. 33. If you want copies please do it now as I can’t say how long the images will remain there.

35 St Andrew’s Drive Pollokshields

You can see these properties listed in the top left corner of this 1898-99 Post Office Directory. No 33 appears to have been Stanley House. http://www.archive.org/stream/postoffic ... 0/mode/2up
Hope I’m not lost,
Alan

33 and 33a appear in the valuation rolls for 1913/1914 http://www.theglasgowstory.com/imagevie ... =TGSV23095
As you can see 33 was still owned by Mr McKenna's family but had been split and rented to Mr Kennedy and Mr Jones.
A lot of these old villas were (and still are) converted to make 2 and even 3 households within them.
Regards,
Annette

Re: just a little enquiry.
Thanks for that Annette,
I mihgt get a copy of 31 and 35 st andrews drive i would think perhaps my my house would be in the middle of them but at least it gives ma an idea of what were inside the houses. it must of been after the war finsihed i think my family moved in as i have a picture of them in the back garden and it looks like it was taken round about 1918-1921. my GT GT aunt still lived there in 1927 and she was married with one child, she ,moved away to perth, WA in 1927 and thats her last address.
Gary.
Edit: My gran said the family stayed in a house called Dalblan, but my gran said it could have different spellings. My GT GT aunt must of moved then down the road perhaps. this is what i got for when my GT GT aunt when she moved, this was her last address. 'Dalblan' 33a St Andrew's Drive, Pollockshields, Glasgow.

I think the address gives you a clue Gary - 33a sounds as if it's been a split villa even at that stage.garydevine1995 wrote:, this was her last address. 'Dalblan' 33a St Andrew's Drive, Pollockshields, Glasgow.
They are/were lovely houses in that area used to dream of living in one when I was young - in fact Dad did look at an upper conversion but even that was still a pipe-dream!
I had a look at an old map of the area , some of the house names are marked, but nothing resembling yours.

Re: just a little enquiry.
hmmmmm weird, i thought it would have been cut up into apartments. my GTGT grandparents must of lived near them then. I was just hoping perhaps i would bebale to pin point the actual house. Gran said that is was converted into an old folks home eventually and i am sure she said it was torn down afterwards. It was some time in the early 20's that the family had the house.
