Asking for help

Post by SandySandilands » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:59 am

I was wondering if I'm posting too much and if it's all a bit trivial for the site?

The problem is, I've moved on from the census and statutory docs and as my lot seldom had their children baptised, few of their marriages appear in the OPRs and they disappear for years on end I'm constanly looking for clues in what I do have incase I have missed something.

I'm conscious of taking up people's time and don't want to become a bore yet at the same time it's fun being able to share these things with people who have a similar interest.

So, if it's too much - let me know :)

On the contrary, I think it is a very good thing that you are pointing out some of the other sources of information in addition to the usual BMD and census records. Such information not only serves to "flesh out" the lives of our ancestors, but can also break down brick walls by coming at the problem from another angle. You never know when some vital clue may surface from a source that you never thought of consulting.

Keep the questions coming! We all contribute as much as we are able but no one feels compelled to spend more time than they want to on any post. We do this because we enjoy it! :D

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sandy

I couldn't agree more with Sarah. We enjoy finding out those little snippets of information that change our ancestors from a census entry to a living, working person.
Sometimes members have discovered that they know so much more about a now defunct trade or activity that they begin contributing their knowledge and could be seen by some as an "expert" in that area.
Keep asking what you consider 'trivia'. For others it may be valuable understanding about their ancestors.
