I have Mary Catherine Belli born Edinburgh 1874, parents, Stepahno Belli and Jane Farrell, she is the sister of my ggrandfather Roberto.
Mary marries Thomas Masterson in 1901 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lauriston Street Edinburgh. They have 4 children, Mary Margaret Masterson 1903, Thomas Joseph Masterson 1905, John Stephen Andrew Masterson 1906 and Annie Patricia Masterson 1910. I find them in the 1911 census with Mary as the head of the family and her brother Stephano Giovanni Belli born 1865 also in the household at what looks like 4 East Adam Street Edinburgh.
The problem is I cannot find hide nor hair of them anywhere else, no deaths or marriages. Had a wee look for immigration as well - nothing, what am I missing? Any ideas anyone!.
all the best
Helen

Re: Where have they gone??????
Hi Helen,
Like you I found no obvious sign of any of them in the Scottish marriage or death certificates after 1911 when you last found sight of them. If there are no emigration records, they could have gone to England, Wales or Ireland.
All the best,
AndrewP

Helen,
Have been looking for your people with no luck so far. There are many Mastersons in the USA about that time, but sorting them out would be quite a job!
My experience with families that disappear from the records like that has shown them to have emigrated and they can be very difficult to find if they went somewhere like South Africa.

Re: Where have they gone??????
Thanks Andrew and Carol. Just spent the last couple of hours on Ancestry and no luck, to many Masterson's and no Stephen Belli's, guess it's another one of my brick walls. these Belli's certainly knew how to disappear without trace.

Re: Where have they gone??????
Hello Helen,
You’ll find this family on the New Zealand BDM index at https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/
Thomas Joseph Masterson died 1927, age 51. Thomas Joseph Masterson born 10 Nov 1905 died relatively recently. John died age 63. Mary Catherine died 1948. Mary Margaret appears to have married a Joseph Henry Tyler in 1930, her given birth date at death was 20 Sept 1902.
There’s probably other stuff there as well. Some events have been considered too recent to be included in the index.
All the best,
Alan

Re: Where have they gone??????
Annie is also on the NZ BDMs as Anne born 12 April, 1910, looks like she didn’t marry.
Probate for Anne, she came from Westport.
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/Vie ... e=15298223
Probate for Mary Catherine, she came from Granity, same general area.

You’ll find burial and other information for all of them on this excellent Buller District Council site. http://www.bullerdc.govt.nz/cemeteries/
