Post by DavidMK » Sun Nov 06, 2011 10:15 pm

I just noted Bob Haining was browsing this segment. Bob, if you are still connected, are you related to the Hainings from Tarbolton?

Hi David,

No connection (that I know of) to Tarbolton. Dad (John) was born in Old Cumnock, the remainder of the generation going back were from Catrine.

I'll send you a PM.

I'll just jump in here & say I think the Tarbolton Hainings also came originally from Cumnock then Catrine/Sorn area (Hi Bob, long time no speak). I've been looking at a friend's tree & one of her relatives married a David Haining, born about 1822 in Ochiltree to David Haining, born 1796 in New Cumnock, & Margaret Currie, born also about 1796 in Ochiltree. David senior & Margaret were married on 21 April 1820 in Sorn. Sorn & Catrine are about 1 mile apart.

In 1841 David & Margaret & 4 sons (David, James, William & Robert. Apart from David all are born in Tarbolton) are in Tarbolton. David is a shoemaker. They are also there in 1851 & 1861.

Hope this is helpful.
