Hi,
I put a post up regarding an emeraldancestors look up and it was moved to the Irish forum. I specifically said that no one had replied to another poster on the Irish forum and i would try on this site. The reason i posted here is that a lot of Scottish people have Irish connections and may also have an emeraldancestors subscription.
I don't think that is an unreasonable request - I have tried on Belfastforum but also no response there.
Maybe someone can explain,
Regards
Ailsa

Re: Post moved?
Hi Ailsa
I moved your post because it was clearly about an event which occurred in Ireland. It helps members browse the forum if posts are in appropriate places - if we have posts all over the place, the forum becomes a bit of a mudde and a less user friendly place to spend time. If members use the View new posts option, then from that point of view it really makes no difference where a new post is situated within the TS site.
With regard to your concern re. the other post which you say was not replied to; some posts are not immediately replied to - this may have more to do with the content of the post than where it was posted. Some posts are more difficult to answer than others, pehaps because the area or subject being researched is more challenging. Also, some information can only be accessed by buying pay-per-view credits or purchasing short or long term subscriptions to web sites - in these cases members may have to make a personal outlay to provide the information being sought.
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: Post moved?
Hi Lesley,
I do appreciate what you say about posts being placed in the appropriate Forum - I always try to post in the Ireland Forum when it is regarding an Irish topic - I still can't understand why asking for a look up in emeraldancestors on this site (or on both) would be a problem as i said before, Scottish and Irish families were and are closely linked.
Also as it is TalkingScot - probably more Scottish people are looking at it, hence more chance of someone having a subscription to emeraldancestors.
I am not averse to subscriptions, buying credits etc (I have spent enough over the years) but sometimes if it is a case of looking for one particular entry it is worth asking !
I can pay for it on rootsIreland.ie for 4 euros or take out a monthly sub on emeraldancestors either way my curiosity will get the better of me and it will probably not be the person i am looking for after all!
Regards

Re: Post moved?
The only time I ever logon is when I’m posting something and then I log out, so I never get to see the view new posts thingmebob. It would be the same for unregistered viewers. I just browse my way down the index page looking for new posts and take a note of any I may be able to help with.
Doing things that way you can easily get a feeling that people may never get to see stuff posted right down at the bottom near darkest Africa, although the TS index page is much more manageable than some forums I’ve seen that seem to go on and on needlessly forever.
All the best,
Alan

Greetings All.
To each their own way. Some time after joining I noted the advice of; View New or Active posts.
Ever since I nanually logon [not given to computer memory] then click the last option VIEW ACTIVE POSTS, then there at the top of the list, is marked in red, the ones I have not previously opened. If in a hurry I just skip through the interesting titles, but sooner or later I will catch up with all unopened, recent posts. TS is too good to miss any thing. It's just a matter of time available. Like now I should be off to Church.
