Marjorie Sybil MATHESON

Post by simon mead » Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:19 am

I'm trying to trace any descendants of the above lady and would appreciate any help that you could give me.

Marjorie S MEAD's birth was registered in Salisbury, December 1916. Her father was William Thomas MEAD b.1878 in Hendon and her mother was Mary Ann GREEN b c1880 in Clyne, Sutherlandshire. Mary's parents were Adam Ferguson GREEN and Annie (probably Ann) DUNCAN who married in Forres, Morayshire, Scotland 3rd August 1867.

In December 1917 William died from wounds received and, we believe, Mary, widowed and with a child, returned home to Inverness.

William was one of 10 siblings and his is the only line that we have been unable to trace hence our interest in Marjorie S.

We have found a marriage that took place in 1940 in Inverness. Marjorie Sybil MEAD m James MATHESON. This could well be 'our' Marjorie and if someone were able to visit one of the locations where the registers are accessible that could tell us who Marjorie's parents were and confirm that she is the person that we are seeking. The only other, vague, detail that I have is that Marjorie might have had a son <name removed as person may still be living>.
Any help that you could give me would be appreciated so much.

Hi Simon
...and welcome to Talking Scot :D

As you query covers a time period which is after both our Talking Ssot and and also Scotlands People's cut-off date by a few years although you cannot see the full marriage entry online at the Scotlands People site, you can order a full copy of the marriage entry from the Scotlands People site (link at top of page) and it will be posted to you.

If, however, any of our members is happy to help with this query, please do not post details of possibly living persons on forum - please use the PM system instead. Thanks.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hello Simon

I recently purchased a marriage certificate from SP - it took about a month to get to Australia - but solved a mystery I had long been exploring. Given the exchange rate - it will cost you around $AU20 - less than most certificates in Australia. Could be a good purchase - always remembering it may not be your person.

Thanks for that Trish, I've no problems with ordering - the right one!

Many thanks all.

I've confirmed that Marjorie Sybil MEAD (m James MATHESON in Inverness, 1940) is the person I am seeking.

Can anyone suggest how I can find out if there were any children from the marriage and, if so, how I can get in contact with them?

Hello Simon,
Have you tried Genes Reunited .
They have a "looking for living relatives "posting area.
They have listings for Marjorie Mead in their data that may be who you are looking for.

Thanks Maureen.

I now know Marjorie as MATHESON and she moved back to Scotland with her mother.

As far as I can see Genes Reunited don't have Scottish records?

But there are others looking for connectons there like yourself who just may be part of that family !
I have had a lot of success on that area with long lost family.

Hi Simon
It is not the records on GR (which are linked to Ancestry as far as I remember) that are likely to be of use, but the member trees.
Click on Search Trees not on Search Records.

We cannot help with tracing living relatives - a trip to the Scotlands People centre in Edinburgh may help you trace forward, but it is always more difficult tracing forwards than backwards.

Best wishes
