Hi,
I'm puzzled by an entry I came me across recently in the England & Wales National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills & Administrations) 1861 -1941 which referred to my Great Grandfather. He died at Larkhall in Nov 1927. The entry states that it was Sealed London 20th January 1928.
Is it normal for Scottish Wills to be recorded in England & Wales?
Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hi Lizzie
If he had assets in England they had to undergo the English probate process.

Thanks mb.
Perhaps you're right though I have no idea if he had any assets in England. In my researching of his life I have no indication of any connections in England.
He was very much a Larkhall man. He was a collier and lived in the house, which I believe he owned, for 52 years. He was also very involved with various Larkhall institutions.
Do you know why it would have been sealed? Most the other entries on the same page seem to indicate the value of the assets.

Hello Lizzie,
There’s some info here that should clarify things. I’ve no idea really but maybe it was something as simple as having money in an English bank or whatever. The value of the English assets probably wasn’t relevant there if all the main estate proceedings were dealt with in Scotland. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/t ... 1288714020
All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,
Thanks once again. That sounds most likely. I'll try to get a copy from the Scottish service.

Hi All,
Solved
Finally got a copy of the Inventory of his Estate ( he did not leave a will) and you were right he had a few shares in a company based in England.
Thanks for advise and help.
