Can't find a death record anywhere!!
Hi Everyone!
I really need your help/ advice once again from anyone willing to give it...
My puzzle is my great grandfather again!...
His name is Robert Condie (DOB 26/03/1859 - Airdrie) and he married Mary Ann Fraser (DOB 03/01/1868) on the 14th June 1889.
In roughly 1909 he changed the family name from Condie to Fraser to evade debt. I have had help on here previously to locate poor law applications but after this I can’t find anything else. His name and signature is on my Grandfather and Grandmothers (George Paterson Fraser and Elizabeth Millar Wotherspoon Meikle) wedding certificate on 23rd Aug 1921 but I can’t find anything about when he died or a death certificate for Robert Condie/ Fraser. I’ve checked every possible registry and record I can possibly think of and I’m lost now.
Please…if anyone can give me any advice of where to search or where to go from here I would be most grateful…this has had me stumped for about 2 years now!
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
Kirsty

Hi Kirsty,
A Quick check on Scotlandspeople showed up a Robert Condie died in Coatbridge, Lanark in 1940, born 1859, but it didn't show when I added the Fraser surname, could this be your gt grandfather?

HI
Thanks for taking a look but this isn't my great grandfather, I had looked at this one previously but the parents names on the death certificate are wrong...my great grandfathers parents are William Condie and Jane Orr...

Re: Can't find a death record anywhere!!
Hi Kirsty,
The cheapest way for you to look for his death in Scotland may be to visit the Family History Centre at The Mitchell Library if you are in Glasgow.
Looking back at all the stuff Jack found I see there is a Mary born about 1905. There is a marriage in 1930 of a Mary Fraser Condie and I wondered if this might be worth a look to see if it's Robert's daughter and if her father was noted as deceased when she married.
Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette
Thank you for taking a look for me...I've had a look at Mary Fraser Condie but I'm unsure as the fathers name is right but mothers name wrong so I checked the marriage certificate of them to see if Robert had remarried but the age of Robert is wrong by almost 20 years. i'm going to try working through the other children to see if that gives me any clues. It's cost a fortune so far, i'll need to try make a day free to go to the mitchell library...it's only a 2 min walk away from where I work!

Re: Can't find a death record anywhere!!
Names can be wrong.... my great-grandfather, for example, stunk at them.
On his marriage licence, he listed his mother as Helen Norrie, when she was Helen Cassidy (or Ellen Cassidy, or Eleanor Cassidy, depending on which record one believes.....). On his father's death certificate, he listed his grandparents as Thomas Jamieson and (---) Hislop ~ but they were Robert Jamieson and Janet Hislop (sister of Thomas Hislop, so he didn't pull Thomas from nothing
).
Also, could he have immigrated somewhere? Looked all over Scotland for one set of great-great-grandparents, only to find (after much searching and a bit of luck) they had moved to be with children and died in the town of Perry, New York. My father and cousins had visited their second cousins out in Perry a couple decades later and never heard that their great-grandparents had lived there....

McGee (Donegal to Edinburgh), Jamieson/Guthrie (Leith), Keddie (Peebles, Galashiels), Little (Cavers, Traquair), Arthur (Galashiels) , Paterson (Edinburgh, with occ. spells in Stirling, Greenock, Leith), Ralston (Glasgow to Stirling), Greig (Elgin)

Hi Killearnan
I had wondered if he had maybe left scotland so now trying to find ot if this is a possibility...it's so frustrating especially when I don't have any family left that could give me any help or clues as to where he may have gone/ settled.
And so the mystery continues.....haha
