Searching for my ancestors John Campbell and Catherine Horn who married 1st January 1788 at Markinch in Fife.
This was an irregular marriage. Catherine was the daughter of John Horn and Catherine Law/Low
Trying to find the groom's parents, believe his father was also named John.
They had two children, Catherine born late 1788 and Duncan born 1792.
Duncan Campbell (occupation: Stone Mason) moved to Meigle, Perth where he married Elizabeth Baxter in 1821.
Would sks have some information re this couple?
Kind regards

Hello Barry, and Welcome to TalkingScot.
I don’t think I’ll be much help in finding your mid 18th Century birth, I’ve given up on mine.
The Markinch baptisms 1743-1777 are in FamilySearch batch C114474. You can get the batch numbers from the Hugh Wallis site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.anc ... #PageTitle
Just follow your nose. You can search a batch for a name, or browse the whole batch, or that of other likely parishes, by leaving the name blank. Sometimes names get hopelessly muddled and looking through a list may help. If you filter the results by birthplace UK it’ll get rid of all the results that aren’t baptisms.
I couldn’t figure out what ‘sks’ meant, but the penny finally dropped.
All the best, and best of luck,
Alan
