Lang/ Laing

Post by Esim » Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:41 am

Hi, its been suggested to me that this is a difference in pronunciation between "Lang" and "Laing" in Scotland.
Can anyone give me a phonetic interpretation?

Thanks
Liz

Hi Liz,

Lang will rhyme with bang, but Laing can be pronounced to rhyme with bang, or with the ai as in rain (can't think of anything to rhyme with that pronunciation of Laing).

All the best,

The only time I've heard Laing pronounced Lang was by Paxo on the BBC.
