Is there anyone out ther who is looking or has looked into the Taylors from Dumbarton? Iam just about to wrap up my research on this family .They go by the names of James Taylor,Ann Hutchinson or Taylor,Sons Robert,James and John, and Daughters Mary,Agnes and Anne Hutchinson Taylor. They owned properties in Paisley, including a public house and properties in Dumbarton.Iam not related to these guys but they lived in the house my freind has lived in all her life and she wanted to know more on the buildings history and its first owners. Its been and intresting search ,I am hopeing there may be others who can add to it
Just to give you a bit of an UPDATE.I was about to tie up this piece of research when I had my first visit to the Mitchell Library. As a final search I typed in the last name found on the family grave stone dated 1996 and found that the informant was the ladies son and that he lived local to me.I got home and gave him a phone ,he was still at that address and very happy to meet with me and my freind who now owns his great grandmothers house. We met last Friday ,we had a very lovely afternoon. He showed us a picture of an oil painting of his great grand mother Ann Hutchinson or Taylor and a family photo of his grandfather James Taylor young family and wife taken about 1915 ish.He also told us about an Aunt named Mary Barr Taylor who was married to a Thomas Mc Neill who built a tenement building in Dumbarton and it was Known as McNeill Place in Dumbarton, its not there anymore sadly.Intrestingly he told us of this great uncle named John Danial Taylor also known as John Jack,he was the 7th captain of Everton FC.Unfortunately John Jack was struck hard on the throat with a football during a semi cup final, damaging badly his larynx and that was an end to his Everton career. It was amazing to me to hear the personal stories of the names I had been researching for almost a year.I was also able to give him some names and events of relatives he was unaware of.We had tea and cake then we took him round to the house his great grandmother owned and shared with his great aunt, Miss Anne Hutchinson Taylor and one of his great uncles,Robert Taylor who was widowed and left with two young sons to bring up.It gave him another link to the past and the house does still have a few original features to show.I gave him all my notes and photos and I hope he will share it with his present family and feel closer to his Taylor family past.It was a delight to meet him.

Hi Anniespangles
It may make it easier for people to place this family if you give some idea of dates. (provided of course that they are not so recent as to be after our cut-off dates of 100 years for births, 75 for marriages and 50 for deaths) Have you checked census entries for them? e.g. 1901 , 1911?
Best wishes

Re: Taylor family Dumbarton/Paisley and Greenock
Yip everything I know or want to know about the family is pre 1940 so all the info is within the cut off dates.James Taylor was born Greenock and died in Dumbarton in 1901 at his home named Jamesfield,95 or 93 Glasgow Rd Dumbarton, before this the family lived at 19 Clyde St Dumbarton but at some point must have came into money as Jamesfield is a large house. After his death James wife Ann Hutchinson or Taylor bought another good sized new house for her and her daughter also named Anne Hutchinson Taylor in 1903,Ann Snr was 76 when she bought Annfield 229 Glasgow Rd Dumbarton, young Ann was 26 in 1903.Later Ann snr's son Robert moved in with his 2 young sons James Kerr Taylor and John Taylor, Robert was a widower to a Mary Maxwell who died aged 37.Old Ann died at Annfield in 1918 aged 84,then her son Robert in 1939 and only a couple of months later in early 1940 young Ann passed away and the house was sold and split amongst the remaining family. The Taylors had left Annfield. They were a well of family and Ann Hutchinson or Taylor left a good sum of money and properties in her will in 1918.The family have large memorial stones by their graves at Dumbarton cementery.I am sure there must be some one who has researced this family before.Ihave looked at all the census records ,infact just about everything I think I can look at .I was just wondering before I close this wee project if anyone else had info on this family. My friend still lives at Annfield though the house name has long changed.

Well Anniespangles,
What a good story that is. You must be pretty pleased with the outcome after your trip to the Mitchell. I'd be on cloud nine, if I was so fortunate as this in my research!
All the best,
Ray
