At Lessudden House,ROX there is said to be a "vault" where many of the Scotts of Raeburn are buried and/or have memorial inscriptions inside.Perhaps a general copying of the inscriptions has never been made for genealogical purposes?
If they have been copied I would appreciate knowing if they have been deposited in an Archive.
Thank you.

Hi Roger,
Have you seen this: http://archive.org/details/cu31924029788795
I'm not sure if this is the same thing that you're hoping for, but if you choose 'Download pdf' from the above site, there's a nice drawing of the 'Burial Aisle'.
Borders Family History Society appear to have MI's, but I didn't see anything specific to Lessudden.

P.S. Welcome to Talking Scot!

Re: Lessudden House
Hello Roger
Borders FHS produced a booklet of St Boswells (Lessudden) graveyard in 1999. While mentioning the Scotts burial vault in the foreword the names, dates etc are not included in the booklet.
However, Lessudden House now has 2 B&B rooms (and very nice they look). I imagine that an email to them might elicit a reply to your question.
I note the site address but if this is construed as "touting" for business for them, then admin feel free to delete!

Re: Lessudden House
Thanks so much for the replies to my question about the Lessudden House burial vault.
I did google the house some time ago and it comes up nicely and so I did see that it is now a B&B.
I also got in touch with the present owner but from the e-mail replies I suspected that no inscriptions have ever been transcribed yet.
It would be a bit of a commute for me at present since I am in Penang now dodging the winter weather in Canada etc.
However, it might be a treasure trove for the future for the Family History centre involved in the area.
I was told too that they have a resident owl in the vault
Thanks again....Roger Scott Lewis

Re: Lessudden House
One further snippet of information that may be of interest to readers is the following about Lessudden House:
I was interested in finding out more about one Robert Scott,(born 1774 in ROX) who is said to have died in London in 1836 but was buried in the Vault at Lessuden House.(He has a nice Will at TNA,London)
Robert was a sea captain/country trader, mostly in the Bay of Bengal and lived for some time at Penang. One of his ships in the 1790s was named the "Carnatic" and so his cousin James Scott in Penang spoke of him as Carnatic Bob...and he also intimated in one of his letters to Lessudden House that he had a Scottish....er I mean Scotch problem..but that is just hearsay of course!!!
Anyway what is more interesting is that while Googling his name a few weeks ago I came across an interesting piece of history.Robert it seems was the first person to build a house on the property that is now the famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore. It seems that a Samuel Milton was the man who had the first land grant from Stamford Raffles the Governor at the time. Robert later bought the property and built a large mansion there. After his death it was turned into a 10 room hotel. The Sarkies brothers later bought it,expanded the business but then knocked down the original building in the last century.
For anyone who has been there they will know that the architecture is spectacular and simply drips with Raj nostalgia and the ghosts of famous people.Maugham being only one of them.Well worth a visit if one is in the area.
You can Google this with "Robert Scott-Samuel Milton/Raffles Hotel"

Re: Lessudden House
Hello
RCAHMS have some photographs of the house - the digitised ones are available to view on the website but unfortunately, none of the vault.

They might have some photos of the burial vault
