In July 2013 LesleyB replied to a message.
In that message LesleyB mentioned the Fife Death Index.
Could sks check the Fife Death Index for me.
Looking for the deaths of John Campbell and Catherine Horn who married at Dysart, Fife on 1st January 1778.
They had two children, Catherine, born 26th october 1778 and Duncan born 25th April 1782.
Witnesses for Catherine were George Horn and Peter Campbell.
Witnesses for Duncan were George Horn and William Kid.
This was an "irregular marriage" therefore another comment by LesleyB interested me.
"That OPRs only have records of Church of Scotland marriages. Did not know this.
Kind regards

Hi clancam
You may find this article interesting:
http://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/socialpoli ... /marriage/
The OPRs predominately feature CoS births, marriages and deaths. The CoS was the established church so if your ancestors belonged to another church other than CoS you may find that the other church kept records (e.g. the Roman Catholic registers, the Free Church of Scotland registers etc.) but sometimes these kind of events were recorded in the OPR of a parish even if the people were not CoS - it varies a lot over parishes. An irreglaur marriages could equally apply to some CoS parishoners, it does not imply, in itself, that the couple were of another church.
Best wishes
Lesley

Not sure if you have searched SP OPRs for likely candidates?
Looks like daughter Catherine may have died young, but there are a good number of Campbellls in the area, so may not be the correct family, unldess you can cross ref. with John's occupation:
Cathran CAMPBELL
Dysart,St Clairtown
Date of burial 2 May 1787
daughter of John Campbell(weaver)
OPR 426-8
Source: Old Parochial Registers - so this can be found on SP in the OPRs
There is a also a Helen, daughter of John Campbell(weaver) who lived at Dysart, St Clairtown, died 21 May 1777, ref. OPR 426-8
(a year before the marriage so not at all clear if this is the correct John Campbell, and the occupation is the same as the one above, so I may be off on the wrong track completely) Also two daughters of what appears to be the same man who died in 1761 & 1768 , so beginning to think your man is not this one....but there is also a son Peter who died in 1757, so this may be a branch of the same family given that the names are similar.
When and where did the two children you have mentioned, Catherine, born 26th october 1778 and Duncan born 25th April 1782, die?
