Blairgowrie Advertiser - 1880

Post by Geoff Rogers » Sun Mar 08, 2015 7:09 pm

Can anyone please tell me where I can find a copy of the Blairgowrie Advertiser for 1880, I have a reference for an obituary that I would like to see.

Many Thanks

This may be where you found the reference, but Ancestry have a copy of a card index to Perthshire newspapers, including the Blairgowrie Advertiser, in the collection entitled "Perth, Scotland Newspaper Index Cards, 1809-1990". The original card index is at the AK Bell Library in Perth, and relates to news, personal announcements etc in papers that they have copies of.

The Blairgowrie Advertiser isn't among the titles at either Find My Past or the British Newspaper Archive. There are a few other sites with old newspapers, but I'm not familiar with them. Anyway, if the image isn't online, you should be able to get a copy from Perth. I've always found them very helpful.

Hello Arthur,

Yes I did find the item on Ancestry UK. I'll try and contact Perth as you recommended and see what they can do for me.

Thanks

I emailed the AK Bell Library in Perth with my request and received an image of the press cutting. I was very impressed with their prompt reply to my query.

Good news, Geoff! Most libraries are open to brief look-ups for remote inquiries especially when there is a source record available. Like ourselves, it's dealing with the oral family histories which can be so challenging and time consuming.

Glad you were successful.

Best wishes,
