Fidra View. Buckhaven

Post by BrainA » Thu Apr 02, 2015 12:05 pm

The 1911 Census Records show my Great Grand Parents (and Grandmother, family name Bayne) living at 2 Fidra View, Buckhaven. The street no longer exists, can anyone tell me where it was located, or if the street name changed?

Hello BrainA and [TS_welcome]

I'm not sure if it is relevant, but a google shows that there is a Fidra View in Buckhaven at 101 Randolph Street, a house recently for sale: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for ... 37400.html

Perhaps someone with local knowledge will come along with a more informed answer!

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks for that. The census states 2 Fidra View and I'm sure it's a street (or was at one time). I will continue looking for old maps to clear this up.

have you looked at the addresses of the properties next to yours on the census?
that will give you an idea of it's whereabouts in the town.

The streets of Buckhaven don't seem to have changed much over the years - simply expanded further from the shore,
so I don't see any 'disappearing' streets.

The property Sarah has found is a semi-detached, so very probably correctly addressed as number 1 & 2 Fidra View.
It's not strictly speaking 'on' Randolph Street, but rather down a lane off Randolph Street, so I would wager it's the one you are looking for
it certainly looks the right age of a property.

Have you looked at the maps on NLS?
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17 ... layers=168
gives a good clear image of the town.

Thanks, I think your information is correct. The buildings certainly look the correct age and on the 1911 census it shows as two rooms.
Thanks for your time spent on this question. Regards Brian
