Regarding your previous post, when you were 8, you drove from Glasgow to Lands End Back. Please explain what " Lands End Back" means? This is an address description that was given for one of my relatives on the 1881 census.

Just a wee point of order here. John o' Groats is NORTH of Glasgow. You have to drive UP to the northernmost point of Britain - unless of course you went south and circumnavigated the globe 'pole to pole'. :lol:

Lands end lies at the very toe of the island, way down there in Cornwall.

Found this and thought I'd breathe some life back into the original post on this thread.....here's a few thoughts from the haggis point of view.....

It's that time o' year again, the 25th of January---open season on haggis.

Noo, whit maks a man that widnae hurt a flea on the ither 364 days o' the year become a vicious, bloodthirsty monster on that wan day?

They're fiends, these Scots. They'd dae onythin' tae get their hauns on
a haggis on the 25th.

An' where can a respectable haggis hide? Ah hiv ma pride. Ah'm a
chieftain, efter a'. It's no' richt fur me tae be scurryin' aboot back
closes or doon dunnies.

You micht think that's funny. D'ye no' think we've got feelin's? Hiv
ye ever looked at it frae the haggis point o' view?
It's bad enough gettin' chased a' ower the place till they catch ye, but then, they lull ye intae a false sense o' security.
They cairry ye in, for a start. Guest of honour. Escorted by a piper
like the chieftain ye are.

They even sit ye at the tap table. Then they hiv the cheek tae toast
yer sonsie face!
And when ye're ready tae hiv a wee dram yersel'---oot comes the knife!

So ye sit there, glaikit like, lookin' aboot ye fur the silverside and
the roast chicken. Then it dawns on ye at last---you're the main
course.
Whit sleekit mind ever thought up sic a thing?
Wan slice an' yer rich, reekin' innards are spillin' oot a' o'er the table.

We hiv tried tae fight back. We've tried tae put them aff us for a
start.

Ah mean, d'ye think onythin's naturally this colour?

Naw. Haggis scientists worked night an' day to find jist the right disgustin' shade. And whit aboot the stuff we're made o'? Any self-respectin' gourmet wid throw us oan the midden.

Everywhere else in the world, it works! The very sicht o' haggis is
enough tae scunner them.
So, whit is it wi' thae Scots? The worse we look, the mair vile we
taste, the mair they seem tae enjoy us.
Mind ye, they've got tae hiv quite a few wee drams in them first! But how long can this go on afore they wipe us aff the face o' the earth? Ah've heard tales that tae keep their evil appetite satisfied they're goin' tae hiv battery haggis farms next. Well, if ah survive the 25th, Ah'm takin' oor case tae the European Court.

Haggis o' the world unite. Make Scotland safe fur haggis.
And if that disnae work, maybe we haggis will hae the last word and haud
a Burns Supper oorsels. Ah hear humans are very tasty!

I got two Haggis in my Christmas hamper, so we're alright for the 25th. One of them is VEGETARIAN , so that should please the "Make Scotland safe for Haggis" brigade.:roll:

The story follows a rehearsal with the musical fusion band Brave Waves, featuring bagpiper Joe McDonald and drummer Harish Kumar with Wong playing accordion. Haggis wun tun and spring rolls are also served up. News anchor Peter Mansbridge will talk "live" with Wong from Vancouver Chinatown's Floata Restaurant.

Wong's 10 course Chinese dinner event + haggis, has been simultaneously described as "wacky", "whimsical", "Monty Pythonesque", and "very Canadian." It inspired the 2004 CBC Television special Gung Haggis Fat Choy, nominated for two Leo awards and produced by Out to See Production's Moyra Rodgers.

The dinner blends together Scottish-Canadian and Chinese-Canadian cultural traditions, as well as creating some new ones. This "little" fundraiser dinner for Asian Canadian Writers' Workshop and the Gung Haggis Fat Choy dragon boat team once started out as a dinner for 16, and now 700 are expected for dinner on January 30th, 2005. Floata is the 4th restaurant to host this dinner event, which almost doubles in size each year, quickly outgrowing 3 previously used restaurants.

Special co-host for 2005, will be Shelagh Rogers, host of CBC Radio's Sounds Like Canada. It was in September 2004, that Toddish McWong first created haggis wun tun as a special gift for Rogers, when she and her flagship morning show relocated to Vancouver from Toronto. Joining them as co-host will be Tom Chin of Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre.

Performers for the event include: bagpiper Joe McDonald and his band Brave Waves, and contemporary hip-hop songstress LaLa * both featured in the Gung Haggis Fat Choy television special. Also joining them are Opera Soprano Heather Pawsey; Governor General's Award winning poet Fred Wah; Scottish Highland dancing brothers Vincent and Cameron Collins + many more special guests such as Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell.

Wong and the Gung Haggis Fat Choy dragon boat team will also be featured on the French television show Thalassa, shown on TV5 on December 10,11 & 12.

Tickets for Gung Haggis Fat Choy are now on sale at Firehall Arts Centre Box Office: 604-689-0926.
