4 for me too.
Just to throw a spanner in the works don't I remember that there was some doubt that the Selkirk Grace was written by Burns.
I am sure I heard that some people claim it was around before Burns.

To be fair to Hughie, the answer does include the comment "There is some controversy about who wrote the Selkirk Grace".
I've always understood that it was about before Burns, but that he modified what already existed.
And then, just to get some controversy on the go, just what is the correct wording of the Selkirk Grace

Six out of ten & me a big Burns fan but I agree some of the questions are a bit obscure & I only lucked out because I guessed a couple correctly.
There may be a family connection to Burns through my Grandfather's Uncle James which might explain the Kilmarnock edition of Burn's in the Family's possesion(unfortunately in very poor condition with the covers missing.)

If that's a genuine First Edition as opposed to one of the many later Kilmarnock editions, then, despite the lack of covers, you may have a rather valuable book , - as in one out of the original 612 first edition.joette wrote:Six out of ten & me a big Burns fan but I agree some of the questions are a bit obscure & I only lucked out because I guessed a couple correctly.

But be warned, - there were many later Kilmarnock editions after the first edition.

That was one of the few I got right - Mossgiel being the only farm I was aware of!!To be fair some of the questions are real toughies, e.g.
"Where was Robert Burns farming when he was prompted to write 'To a Mouse' after ploughing up a mouse nest?
Mount Oliphant Farm
Lochlie Farm
Mossgiel Farm
Ellisland Farm"
.... that one in the context that he farmed at all four........... a real toughie would be "Put these farms in their correct order in terms of occupation by BURNS and his family" !!
Best wishes
Lesley

Well, I did mention in the original post that they were tough questions. The quiz was made a few years ago when I was running a weekly quiz for my group. Some of the participants were starting to use the new kid on the block (Google) to get the answers, so that might explain the perceived deception on my part
The 'sodger Hugh' (Hugh Montgomerie) was in there because he was our local earl (Earl of Eglinton). He was murdered on the beach at Ardrossan by a poacher.
If you got four right you did well
