Sounds like the traditional response in Newfoundland to "How do you like your moose best?" The answer is "Poached"

Heather,

I do hope you're meaning an animal native of Newfoundland and not a Scottish moose. :)

Have a Happy Christmas!

I most certainly mean the moose of the very large variety.
As you can imagine My parents accents caused no end of confusion when we moved to Newfoundland,But we never expected Mum and Dad to have any misunderstandings. But they did.Shortly after we moved to Nfld.my father who was a Burner Mechanic witha large area to cover was very late in coming home from a service call one night. When he came in Mum asked what had kept him so long.Dad told her he had got stuck following a moose most of the way home.It took a bit of explaining for Mum to understand he didn't mean a wee moose in a' house. It was probably a year later (when we were still using the old road to get to St.John's the capital about 2 hours away then.)when Mum saw her first Newfounland moose. She understood quick enough why Dad got stuck behind. When we go to the Island now we drive and then take the Port au Basque ferry(It's cheaper then the Argentia crossing)We learned early on to get behind a "moose basher "as soon as you get off the ferry.A moose basher is an 18 wheeler, the only thing that can go up against a head on with a moose.Like other members of the deer family their attracted by the headlights and we have often sat on the side of the road waiting for a family of moose to move on.Their a beautiful sight both in the wild and surrounded by jigs dinner.
