Definitely plunking school in Bishopbriggs, in the fifties. Why, I particularly remember the term was because the truant officer was named Mr. "Plunkett"!!!

Hi Everyone

What a laugh I have had reading this lot - boy does it take me back. Let's face it folks - whatever we called it - we all tried it - and we all got caught. Probably mainly because those before us had tried it as well (and probably got caught too) !!!.

Thanks lots for the laughs

Ted

PS - we called it pluggin' school where I was brought up in Bo'ness
Looking for Allan / Gordon / Troup / McInnes / Grant / Taylor / Jackson from Aberdeen (city & shire) & Banffshire

An Australian perspective:

When I went to school in the 70s (1970s.. 8) ) playing truant was called wagging. Most days we attempted to get out the front gate at lunch without a permission note. Invariably, my three friends were pulled up [-X but I was never spoken too - must have had an innocent face...

Now wagging is called dogging it or jigging.

I have to admitt I skipped the occasional Maths lesson, :-$
and even skipped the odd whole day to go fishing when I was at school in Kent.

But! I never skipped physical education, science, history, or english lessons I seemd to really enjoy those. =;

Well we definitely "skidged" in Port Glasgow in the 70s and if caught got our names in the "Skidgers' Book".
(not me of course!)

Wel, I am from Paisley originally and went to the new Camphill High School in Foxbar. It was definately 'dogging' when I was there in the late 70's.

I did dog the school once and felt so guilty I couldn't enjoy it! Never did it again, it wasn't worth the sick feeling it gave me.

Of course its "plunking" DavidWW but then it sounds as though we come from same area so not surprising.

I remember I asked my Mum to write me a note to get me off gym. Thankfully on the way to school I wondered what she had written so I had a peek. It said " Please excuse "mallog" from gym today as she was far too lazy to get her gym kit ready" !!

Hi Mallog

Thank the Guid Lord that your Ayrshire memory of the term matches mine, - I was beginning to worry about the accuracy of my memory .......
