Oor Family Tree

Noo awbody here t’day Ah ken hiv go’ a family tree
Disnae matter if it’s fu’ or shilpie, anely wan thing ye can see
This place cried TalkingScot ye’ found is really like nae ither
Here ye go’a second tree…… an Ah think Ina is ur mither?!!
A fly look oan th’ membership roll proves whit Ah suggest
Oan Seventh day December Two Thousand Four Mesklin sat doon to rest
He mist hiv created davesloan and Ina to populate this paradise
Fur oan th’ verrra next day efter they jined….. Alcluith an’ they aw stairt to arrive
Anither day later ye see Laura, Cassie, and Cat appear
Along with BobG and StewL aw in fine genealogy gear.
But oan th’ Eleventh ye cannae believe how things really go’ hoppin’!
Hullaweer China! Oot popped ten more bairns wi’ nae sign of it stoppin’…….
Annette, Jack, Anne, Mary, Ian, weesenga ….. then a wee pause
DavidWW, Montrose Budie, sporran, and JustJean…please haud yer applause! =D>
The ensuin’ day wiz jist as guid innat…….. but anely by aboot hauf
Wi’ AndrewP, marilyn morning, Andy, Jean Jeanie, an’ Malcolm jinin’ th’ staff.
Ah see this is an auspicious time to look doon a’ ye’ feet
If ye’ no wearin’ wellies ye micht want t’ move ye’ seat
Ah’m gaun t’ honour these guid folk wi’ praise (ah’m no jist pokin’ fun)
Wi’oot ‘em TS widnae hiv oany heart …..Fizzers ev’ry wan!! \:D/
They go’ talents, looks an’ contacts..….maps an’ disks galore…
They go’ books oan shelves an’ brainwaves an’ eemor in th’ core
They write they read they research an’ scrieve it doon n’ type
They blether an’ befriend ye….Och noo mah e’es Ah need t’ wipe…
When ye ask your posts they assist t’ hyst ye o’er th’ fence
An’ th’ bonnie pairt is in true Scots form it coasts ye nary a pence!
Noo instead o’stayin’ sittin’ here wi’ a face fu’ an’ greetin’
Clammer doon to th’ beaches…. ye can a’ least stick your feet in
Twill be fur th’ best Ah ken t’ avoid a big stushie
Ah willnae say nae more richt noo an get aw’ mushie
Goad this creation story has taken a life aw it’s ane!
Ah’ve go’ to see it to th’end….………...wiz that a groan!????
13 Ah’ve heard it telt is an awfy unsonsie digit
Cannae say if that’s true ken but Ah cannae help but fidgit
To see that oot o’ th’cleck birthed that date
Four dinnae survive acause zero post was their fate….
Or mayhaps it’s acause th’ pick o’ th’ latter,
Moonwatcher, spake fer aw wi’ his glamorous Glesga patter. O:)
Anither wan ken is oan th’ AG and th’ chair
But Stephan smooks past this site which really isnae fair!
Th’ next lot ken a few more stryngers did it yield…..
Ye jist niver can predict who’ll stray into th’ field!
Movin’ up a notch jump to BillyF and nelmit
Baith loyal FoTS….th’ best that ye can get!
WilmaM’s up next…..but she’s a Wonka no Flintstone!
And Linda Malpass frae o’er in th’ Canadian Pacific time zone
Nancy an’ bruceaston are somehoo related Ah seem t’ think
Ur wiz that acause oan Mercredi Gras we’d aw hid a hantle t’ drink?
With Merlot hangin’ aboot th’ place it isnae hard t’ tell
Drinkin’ Scotch isnae the anely way t’ raise a bi’ o’ hell!
Keep a calm sooch acause Ah’m no deen oot yet
Creeshin’ the thrapple micht hep t’ keep mah whistle wet
Ah’m fairly spewin’ feathers but dinnae droon th’ miller
Still mah corry fist is oan th’ wheel and richt haun oan th’ tiller.
Noo Ah recall when HeatherV came roond t’ jin th’ pack
Hoo we did grin a’ a Stotian Heather….o’ which we dinnae lack!
This comes an appropriate spot t’call attention t’ th’ list
HeatherK jined up back oan page wan but somehoo she go’ mist!!
Well no really mist ken jist dumped an’ re-made by oor wizard
She noo comes in a’ 172 but fits way back ahent th’ blizzard
Of people’s heids that Ah’m gaun to flit richt o’er now
But ye can aw come oot at wance an’ take a group bow
Save for ladybird an’ jaypee, (di’ye ken his name is Jaro?)
G. Love, and STUARTDAGLIESH (who seems a richt guid fellow).
She dinnae say if she’s a dingdong but Ellenavon seems OK
She’s go’ th’ midge repellent to keep ‘em aw a’wa
joyce, Alison Plenderleith and grannysrock from European soils
An’ bobj-kirk from th’ Arctic belt where th’ sun ne’er boils
Lbathgate, Maud Jarvis an’ scooter ur able t’ pitch in
But best t’ check th’ gallery fur Dennis or more o’ his kin
Maggie go’ a clue to a bore in her solid wa’ ](*,)
Ance begun it wisnae long fore aw’ th’ bricks startit to fa’
Marie Svedahl and Anne H. each wan from o’er th’ pond
Go’ helped in aw’ th’ways o’ which we’re verrra fond
Soccerchick noo Ah think must be a richt guid sportin’ lass
Noo let me doublecheck aw’ th’ ither names Ah hid to pass
It isnae fair I ken ye see fur th’ way Ah’m skippin’ aboot
But so many branches in oor tree hiv niver really leafed oot!
Aye but if mah wee rhymie’ll e’er lighten BePaC Day
Ah mist put doon mah moose, pack up th’ weans, and be oan mah way
Yet DTCWa fits in special as he’s th’ verrra first
The family pet, wee D’Oyly cat, he gets away wi’ the worst!
Ah’ve warned aw oor feathered friends lik Bridie and RI Red
Ah jist hope oan th’ beach they can aw keep their heid!
Whit’s in a name ye ask well Ah’m goan t’ show you aye Ah am
Jamboesque comes frae th’ French and it’s meanin’ is “like a ham”!
Snowwhite77 came oan soon efter and wi’oot e’en an apology….
Wi’ th’ dwarfs be next we askit oorselves? Nah ‘twas anely Jeannie-Alogy!
Janemar earned wan poster’s raves by addin’ oan a rellie number
Goldcoast go’ bombed wi’ glory….Ah hope we dinnae wake their slumber!
Jist y’day Gran was heard to moan hoo she dinnae wish t’ be takin’.
In time she’ll see it jist cannae be acause she’ll turn roond an’ stairt makin’
Posts of her ane bound t’ spread fa’ an’ wide
Whilst we aw look oan an’ jist beam wi’ pride!
An’ in her Collins surname search mebbe she could punt
Ah’m thinkin’ Tom or Vodka micht assist oan th’ hunt.
An’ th’ Grand Op’nin of th’ housin’ o’ th’ whiter washed SP
Brung a wheen to oor message board jist hiv a wee looksee
How th’ linked doors are now op’n wide and ev’ry day we grow
Some new names are really auld wans and we love t’ say Hullo
Wither ye mak a kirk or a mill o’ it progress has it’s pace
The broon and gowd is gane aye but we noo embrace
New faces an’ new places ne’er tint auld lang syne
Davie aff in Aotearoa gatherin’ family aw th’ time.
It’s nae wonder he’s bogglin at research for aw th’ Maori lasses
“Noo aboot that thigh tattoo.…Quick haund me mah glasses!!”
They say he’s passin’ oot th’ brochures an’ talkin’ up a storm
Nithin’unco aboot that weel ken it’s jist his daily norm………………………………..….
Cantily ah’ve telt th’ yairn aboot Oor Family Tree
Ye’ve been awfy guid to sit it through ah’m sure ye’ll aw agree
So wither ye daff a Jimmy bunnet er chicken-hatt er bauld pate
Twenty-Four June Two Thousand Five let’s aw celebrate!
Och s’time t’ skirt….th’ ocean temps ur oan th’rise
Tae th’ beaches Ah say wi’ raised up glass!……Ah’m aff fur th’ prize! 8)

C'mon you lot. Ah ken the competition is tough, but whaur's the rest of ye?

Where's the wee couthy stories? The quiet verse. The (slightly) bawdy ballad?

Do ah hive tae come in wi' Annabelle's theme tune?

The Fleet's in!
The Fleet's in!
The Jolly Jack Tars abound!
There's lots of handsome sailors
So I'm getting myself around!

Things ye hiv tae dae. Honest!

Our Ancestors

Post by Jean Jeanie » Fri Jun 24, 2005 10:57 pm

Can't really compete with Just Jean but here goes!!!

OUR ANCESTORS

We seek them here
We seek them there
Under the table
Under the chair

They change their names
At the drop of a hat
Sometimes they’re this
Sometimes they’re that

Sarah could be Sadie
Lizzie could be Betty
Margaret could be Maggie
Janet could be Nettie

We’ve met Edward who is Ted
William who is Billy
Mary who is Molly
Matilda who is Tilly

Their ages change, just like their names
I think they all like playing games
I’m sure they’re laughing in their graves
Those Peters, Patricks, Johns and Daves

I’m sure they didn’t mean it
Didn’t mean to give us grief
But what we’ve now discovered
Is well beyond belief!

They’ve given us a mission
To find them “Do or die”
SP’s made me “boracic”
My savings gone – “Bye Bye!”

Jean

Right, Yer no' gonny like this but .................... ah've hid far too much alcohol tae drink an' let's face it there's always wan so ah'm gonny start a wee song an' ah hope ye'll aw join in wae yer ane.

Could be today, could be tomorrow or next week but I think this could grow.

Sung to the tune of 'Walk Tall' - Ye know the Val Doonican song. If ye don't look it up!

My father was a singer
My mother cooked the books
Her mother was the Gray Dunn's nurse
His father clicked the boots
My mother's mum was very sad
My daddy's mother too
And I was born
One dark grey morn'
In 1952

Aul' Scotia's full o History. Tae a' that's very plain
An' ilka geenie-whatsit wants a wee bit fir their ain.
We'd love tae find an ancestor as braw as he can be
Tae hang wi' real enthusiasm on the fem'ly tree.
But while we're busy searching for some glory tae inherit
We're much mair likely tae fin oot oor grannie never merrit
An grandad's faither's no the laird as wance we thocht afore
Instead he's Jock the gaird'ner wha worked for them next door.
Oor grannie's grannie didna help the bonnie prince tae flee
Mair like she wiz the parlourmaid wha served the folks their tea
But a these people high and low had ilk a tale tae tell
They laughed and cried and loved and fought. lived badly or lived well
They fought in wars and buried weans, tholed poverty and pain
We try tae unnerstaun lives sae much harsher than oor ain
An though they werena famous and their claithes were never braw
They're oors, we're here acause o' them and sae we love them a'

Sorry for this piece of doggerel or catterel (with apologies to D'Oyley) but I'm off tae a wadding ramorrow in Towie of all places and this is probably my only chance to say hi to all at the pairty.

Hope am not too late to enter thet there competission.

C'était un petit matelot
Sur les flots de la mer écossaise
C'était un petit matelot
Oh, oh, petit matelot

Voguait de Brest à Frisco
Sur les flots de la mer écossaise
Voguait de Brest à Frisco
Oh, oh, petit matelot

Un jour le temps se fit très gros
...
Serr' les voiles tout le monde en haut
...
Tombe de plus de vingt mètres de haut
...
On mit la chaloupe à l'eau
...
Pour vite le tirer des flots
...
Mais on ne sauva que son chapeau
...
Sa vieille pipe et ses sabots
...
Peut-être bien que le p'tit matelot
...
Est dans le ventre d'un cachalot

And where on earth will we find his death certificate?

La, la, la, la, de doh.

So Daddy Roo Ah've come back.
