Scottish History Website Wanted. From Conerty to Donnachie

Post by Hugo » Fri Sep 26, 2008 6:44 pm

I am looking for an Irish-Scottish website where I can confirm the information given in the following post on MyHeritage.

http://www.myheritage.com/genealogy-for ... n=1&page=2

It tells of the Conerty clan moving from Ireland to Perthshire after the last Ice age . There they became known as Duncan then some as Robertson and Donnachie. The Donnachies moved to Ireland in the Plantation.

This is of interest as I was told my family moved from Scotland to Ireland and then back again to Scotland, but with no dates or locations.

It is one, possible, origin of where my family came from. I will put it no stronger than that.

Hello Hugo,

Using this search engine http://ixquick.com/uk/ search for "Connerty family was born among" (including the quotes) and it will sometimes bring up stuff not found by google. (usually MSN)

Perhaps it came from this site http://www3.sympatico.ca/helen.pattison/
Probably the same person (contact at bottom) http://blakespages.com/Connertys/william.html

By the way the Coat of Arms image at the bottom is a monster squeezed into a small space, 3204x1924, that’s why it takes so long to load. It would probably print very nicely on an A4 or bigger.

Hugo,

Have a look at Google Books http://www.google.com.au/books?hl=en Search for Donnachie and select “full view” and you’ll get just a few results, mainly old books, which may contain something interesting. You could try some of your name variations and dalriadan etc. and see what turns up.

Using this method usually guarantees old stuff and filters out most of the internet clutter.

Hope this helps,
Alan

Thanks Alan,

That is an approach I had not thought of. I will try it.

Just to close this thread.

I am fairly sure the 'history' of the Conerty clan originally came from a commercial website called the Hall of Names.

It remains for me an interesting but unverified tale.

My thanks to all who helped.
