The brilliant Mr Simpson at Linn Cemetery!

Post by LesleyB » Fri Oct 28, 2005 12:18 am

Last week, realising I was going to be in Glasgow on Saturday and having recently discovered the lair reference for my McNicol family in the Southern Necropolis I phoned the "Cemeteries & Crematoria Registrar" at Glasgow to find out if there were any maps of the layout of the cemetery available so that I could find it. I've spent too many afternoons in the past in enormous cold and damp cemeteries wondering why my ancestors can't guide me in the right direction (!) so I always try to get a map and/or directions before I go.

They advised me that they did not have maps - I'd have to phone "Mr Simpson at Linn Cemetery" and he would be able to tell me how to find it. I left a message on Mr Simpson's answering machine. He phoned me back within the hour and I explained what I was looking for. He took the lair ref.

I was out the next day when he phoned back, but he left a message with helpful instructions of how to find the site, informed there was a grave stone on the plot (whooppee!) and said he'd also put a marker on it.

When we got to the Southern Necropolis on Saturday not only were his directions "spot-on" but the marker was painted white and the lair number painted on it - you couldn't really miss it!!

I phoned this week and left another message on his answering machine to say thanks. I'm just so impressed! Thank you Mr Simpson! Brilliant.
