Scottish Town Celebrations .....

Post by CatrionaL » Wed Jan 26, 2005 5:07 pm

Hullo all,

I didn't manage Haggis and neeps this year. I was too busy enjoying a succulent buffet à la française, with a group who are working hard at learning English. Hope some of you kept up with traditions.

We have the Standard Bearer in Selkirk, the Beltane Queen in Peebles. Let's hear about your towns' special celebrations.

Look forward to reading about them.

I'm a 'next door to Govanite' or 'Sunny Govana' to the locals. Govan is on the South of the river Clyde in Glasgow [ was a seperate entity]

The Govan Fair is held on the First Friday in June and all the kids had the afternoon off school. For some reason a Sheep's Heid is carried at the front of the parade.

I think a hotheated young suitor who was chased by an irate faither returned and slaughtered the aforementioned faither's sheep and carried off the heid but I can't find any collaboration ;)
