My Rabbie Burns Quiz

Post by camweh » Mon Jan 23, 2006 7:15 pm

That time of the year again when two Ayrshire lads will be another year older - that'll be both Rabbie and I.

I made a wee quiz up a few years ago about Rabbie. See if you can get a couple of answers right - I really made it a wee bit difficult.

8 out of 10, but less would be unacceptable for an "Honest Man" :!:

I will allow myself to boost the confidence of those that only got 4 - i got 3 :D (pure guesses) but, if i had read the questions first would have got more as it seems some of the answers to earlier questions are in the one that come after :? :!:
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

I do not believe it  The first letter of one of my answers was missing,so instead of 7 correct i only got 6  Well that's better than i expected.I thought i'd only get about 2 right,as i've never really been a Burns fan, although i must admit he was a clever man :) Cheers Nancy.

To be fair some of the questions are real toughies, e.g.

"Lauth was one of the dogs in Burns' poem 'The Twa Dogs'. What was the name of the other dog?"

"Where was Robert Burns farming when he was prompted to write 'To a Mouse' after ploughing up a mouse nest?

Mount Oliphant Farm
Lochlie Farm
Mossgiel Farm
Ellisland Farm"

.... that one in the context that he farmed at all four........... a real toughie would be "Put these farms in their correct order in terms of occupation by BURNS and his family" !!

"How many copies were published of Burns' poems commonly known as 'The Kilmarnock Edition'?

312
612
412
512"

And last but far from least.......

"Who was the 'sodger Hugh' that Robert Burns referred to in his poem 'The Author's Earnest Cry and Prayer'?

Hugh Blair
Hugh McCallum
Hugh MacDiarmid
Hugh Montgomerie"

How the heck are you supposed to know that?, unless it's a fairly useless piece of trivia that, like me, you've been carrying about in your heid for who knows how many years.

Reviewing all the questions, I'm impressed that TS members are averaging a score of 4, as there's only really 2 questions that could be classified as easy.

David

PS It was #6 & #7 that I got wrong !, - and that's someone who passed Burns' Cottage 4 times a day for 7 years :!:

This post should have come with a major health warning, - something along the lines of , "After doing the Robert Burns quiz, DO NOT go to other quizs on the parent site, otherwise you will spend considerable time on other quizs", many of which have been compiled by "camweh" !

I'm going to leave it to readers to figure out the "three towns" in Ayrshire reference!
