The Cafe, High St, Elgin. Query number one.......

Post by meelymunch » Sun Feb 19, 2006 9:54 am

Good morning everyone,
I have two queries that have been puzzling me and after a quick search on Google i'm none the wiser .... so i thought of the "old wise ones" on here
I'll put them on separate posts... the first :

On a handful of marriage certs, early 1900's to 1917, I have had relatives get married at The Cafe,High Street,Elgin.

Was this an actual cafe and is it still there now. Was it the same as getting married in a posh hotel?

Anyone got any photo's ??

Cheers,Carole.
Re-searching: Gifford,Grant,McHattie,
Wood "Park",Geddes,Findlay,Robertson,Milton,Cowie from Buckie,Portgordon,Fordyce + Portknockie,Banffshire.
McDonalds from Fraserburgh,Aberdeen.
Geddes,Harvey + Vogt from Glasgow,Lanarkshire + Rothesay,Bute.

The equivalent, perhaps, but maybe not the same :!:

I suspect that it was a very convenient place to hold the reception, and also had the appropriate facilities for the marriage itself !

The chances are that you'll find someone on TS with relevant local knowledge, or access to such knowledge.
