I hope I'm posting this in the correct area......
Remember ice cream vans coming round the streets? And McCallum's, Double Nuggets, Oysters and the less exotic sliders and plain cones? And bottles of Irn Bru, Ginger Beer, Tizer and Vimto. What about Penny Dainties (McCowan's caramels) and their Highland Toffee? Gobstoppers? Sherbert dabs? Fry's Five Boys chocolate bars and Peppermint cream? You can of course still buy some of these items today, while others have gone the way of the Dodo.
....Ohhhhh......Mah mooth's watterin' so it is!.....What was YOUR favourite childhood treat -- and why?

Tusker,
Why did you have to mention all those goodies? Now my mouth is watering for a big nugget wafer.
Every time I go home, my first stop is to the Italians at the West end of Greenock to buy a nugget wafer (they are the only people in Greenock who make them anymore). Also like the snowballs and ice cream.......mmmm good!!!
I remember as a child, every Sunday, right after dinner my mother would get her good crystal bowl out and send me up to the "Tallies" to have it filled with ice cream and raspberry sauce. The family would all be patiently waiting for me to return with their desert.

Aztec bars, cola cubes, cola pips, jubblies and funny faces ice cream lolly. There was a bakers called Bartons that used to make crisps called tomato puffs but the best thing about the bakers is that it had one of those mirrors where you could stand at the edge and lift your arm and leg and see yourself in symetry

Chelsea Whoppers were my favourite but I also loved Mint Cracknell and remember getting it from the Co-op not long after it changed from counter service to self service. There was another chocolate bar in the 70's too, think it was Cadbury's and it was a Country Bar I think it was called, came in gingham checked paper and had wee biscuits and raisins in it.
Oh boy, what I'd give for one now ha ha!!

Has to be my MUM's homemade Tablet.Closely followed by MB Bar(I suppose a child's version of Fry's cream.)Fry's Five Centre & how I longed for a whole bar of my own.Pineapple Chunks,Everbody's Mixture &
1/2d Caramel.
The latter was your reward for fetching the Sunday Papers,Irn-Brew & an Abdine for the suffering Pater!
Mum was not keen on sweets for us as she has a total sweet tooth which took her years to control.Whenever we had a spare penny it was of to the sweetie shop to droooooollll at the choices!!! However Homemade Tablet was allowed,I think so she could scrape out the condensed milk tin!

I am an independent sales rep and my major line is British sweets and foods
which I sell to British and Scottish stores. There is at least one in every major urban area here in Ontario and some not so urban.
Thank goodness, the walnut whips and th double dekers are in sealed cases or my hand would wander while in the van delivering them.
I said to one customer:
You know!, I just don't sell food, I sell nostalgia"
Her reply was:
"Yea well, nostalgia is fattening too!: <smile>
