Naughton and Gold, Crazy Gang .....

Post by Davie » Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:07 pm

Greetin’s All
Was down in Nottingham last week at an auction, and the Brither purchased several old Theatrical ephemera items.
These included a few hand written skits by Charlie Naughton, who along with his partner, Jimmy Gold, (both born in Glasgow) formed part of the Crazy Gang,
Would be interested if anyone here are related or know of anyone who is.
In one of the books we have
Comic: “My brother was employed as a Hammer Chewer”
Straight man: “You mean he chewed hammers for a living?”
C : Naw, he was a Ammertuer, he didnae get payed furrit”

Don’t yeese wish we still had the old music hall acts in oor local theatres the day?

I would also be interested in any memories you have of the Music Hall in yer ain backyerd.
I can remember Lex McLean in the Pavillion, a regular fornightly trip wey ma Faither.
After the game at Ibrox, I would be treated to dinner at the Buchanan, above the Five Ways before the first performance.
A treat indeed.
Awrabest

Hi Davie,I can remember my Mum and Auntie Esther taking me to Paisley Theatre on a Friday night, back in the late 50s
There was The Logan Family,Billy Rusk and all the usual ones doing the Theatre circuit.
Just being a teenager, and my mum having me at dancing classes, made me want to be up there with those Chorus Girls
When we went back home everyone had to sit through my performance of the song and dance routines  The mind boggles

Those were good times though and thats whats lacking now!!
No Theatre in Paisley,or Cinemas. The kids just dont have the same as we had.

My Granddaughter went to Cinema tonight, and I couldnt believe it was a fiver to get in  Not to mention a few quid bus fares :(
Cheers Nancy
