Hi,

Are there any early newsreel films of areas in Scotland that may have been shown in theatres?

Anybody remember the name of the Programme which went out on STV -John Gregson I think was the bloke's name-looked a bit like David Kossof & he used to produce these wonderful little vignettes of people's lifes.
I think it was Gregson World.Black &White but wonderful.
I remember one little film & my Mum booed her eyes out because my Aunt who had emigrated to USA was in one of them unbeknowns to anybody & there she was arm in arm with one of her friends walking down Sauchiehall St or similiar!

That tv show was called The Wonderful World of John Grierson.
John Grierson was an acclaimed documentary film maker, some call him the father of the genre. I was very young when it was on but I loved it, also the opening titles sequence with the clouds swirling across the sky.

Thanks & ditto for me.Just couldn't get the name of programme & knew his name was out too.Just call it middle age confusion!
I remember seeing some of his work at the now defunct MOMI on the South Bank,London. I got quite excited much to my companions amusement. You can take the child out into the adult World but you never take the child out of the adult
PS MOMI is Musuem of the Moving Image & was a wonderful place to visit for those who love film & TV.Even had it's own cinema.Got my bag knicked there -the only time I've been robbed.

I used to love MOMI, and went often as I worked close by on the South Bank. It's been gone a long time now, and I think that's very sad, it was such a great place to visit if you are a fan of film and tv.
