Help please - php error message

This is driving me mad - hope someone can help!
In the last couple of weeks I have had difficulty accessing 'talkingscot', mainly during the day. The error message usually says,
"phpBB could not connect to the database".
A couple of times it has said, "Coppermine Critical Error. Unable to connect to phpBB board database! MSQL said: Can't connect to local mySQL server through socket 'var/lib/mysql/sock' [111]."
I haven't added anything to the computer and I must say that although I have 'googled' both errors I am no further forward. I am very much a technical idiot and terrified of meddling with anything in case I really muck things up!
Grateful for any 'fairly simple' advice.

Hi Rae,

This is an ongoing problem with TalkingScot, not your PC. I have been in contact witrh TS's hosting company seeking a longer term solution.

Not to worry, it's not your computer. We've all been having problems accessing the site these past few weeks.

I was so frustrated one day trying to access the site, that I felt like

Hi Andrew and Ina,
Many thanks for the speedy replies. Thank goodness it's not my P.C and not a virus!
In between writing my message and your replies I lost it again - 'talkingscot' I mean and not my head!
It is still frustrating but at least I know what is happening now.

I have an iMac and use the Firefox 1.5 browser (won't update something thats working fine)
I have not had any trouble accessing TS. I am on the site for 5 - 15 minutes
two or three different times every day and evening.

Letting you know in case it helps diagnose the trouble.

Is this one cleared and working as normal for you now? The search is working fine for me. I think it should work for all, or fail for all. If it is still failing for you, I will do a database repair when I get home in a couple of hours.
