the Post Office do 'buy back' foreign currency Dennis.
Another thing to be careful of - the UK use the Chip & PIN security system on Credit/Debit card transactions, whereby you don't sign for them but enter your PIN number into a machine - my sister had to be careful where she used her card.

Re: Currency Exchange
Hi:)
The following was in reply to a question I had sent to the U.K. Post Office: 'Please note that we are only to fulfil foreign currency order requests for customers, who hold a UK sourced credit/debit card and live in the UK. All of our orders can only be send to a UK billing address'.
Cheap dennis:)
Update on using my mastercard; bank says I would save about $1 on each $250 transaction

Re: Currency Exchange
Not forgetting that Great British institution Marks & Spencer.
They, i have found in recent years, have been better than any high street bank for changing / exchanging money and there are just as many of them dotted about the high street.
I'm probably on the wrong wave length but thought it worth noteing

Re: Currency Exchange
Hi Tracey,
Marks & Spencer does the same as the Post Office; only sells foreign currency to residents of the U.K.

Our buy back service is also available to visitors to the UK. Simply visit an M&S Bureau de Change and exchange your home currency for pounds sterling.

Re: Currency Exchange
Wow! This explains it to me: http://www.buycurrency.co.uk/ Since I'm not a UK Resident, Only have my expired passport, then I can't order GBP over the net. Funny how the amount of $ they give a UK resident in exchange for their GBP is about what I would get for selling to my bank whatever GBP I have left from a visit to UK:)
Ah, the old days when you could have about 7 coins and the largest amount be a shilling:) dennis
