Robert Hourston .....

Trying to find information on Robert Hourston, born Stromness Orkney in 1873. Listed in 1881 census at home in Stromness but after that he doesn't seem to be in Scotland. Family story is he went to Liverpool and married there.
I'm not sure where I should start looking so would like some pointers as to where I should start looking.

There are two Robert Hourston marriages on freebmd

Robert Hourston 1892 Newcastle Upon Tyne Northumberland
Robert Hourston 1902 West Derby Lancashire

I havnt looked at possible brides names.

Searching the census quickly with just the sir name Hourston so far........

1891 produces two females

1901 the closest is a James I Hourston born in Orkney aged 38 who is an engineers assistant living in East Ham and married to an Ellen.

Havnt done wild card search though

You can order them from http://www.gro.gov.uk

I suppose you are lucky in that there is only a choice of two

But also remembering that English certificates dont give much away. As far as parents are concerned you will only find the fathers names of the couple on it along with occupations

and witnesses.

If it's any help, in 1902 West Derby was a district in the County of Liverpool......maybe still is for all I know!!

Robert's father was called James., but yes they were from Orkney!
