English Birth Certs.
I know on Scottish BCs the parents marriage date is sometimes stated, is this also included on English BCs?
I've just ordered my MIL BC from 1924 and wonder if this info will be on it.

Hi!
'Fraid this is where you find out just how lucky we are with Scottish certs.
None of the English certs that I have seen have that information, although you will get the mother's maiden name on there and from that you'll have to hope for unusual names and trawl through Ancestry on their Full BMD!
I've just been off and checked both my sons certificates and even they don't show the marriage details and they are the full certificates.
Good luck
Donna

Do you have their first names?
Also, do you know if MIL was the oldest or youngest kiddie?
If she was the oldest then I'd look nearer to that 1924 DOB first, if she was the youngest you may get lucky and be able to find it transcribed on FreeBMD.
Pop up some of the info, I'll be on and off here today but I've had practice at this myself....tedious isn't the word!

Hi Donna - I don't have much I'm afraid.
MILs parents were
John William Martin (dock labourer)
Mary Nelson
Both deceased by 1951 (from MIL mariage cert)
Not sure where she fitted into the family, all I know is she had brothers. I'm sure she told me she had both older and younger.
Not much I know
Hard going isn't it.

Hi!
Sorry for the delay.....but I think I've got something for you.
I've had a trawl through Ancestry and have found the following wedding:-
John W Martin - Mary Nelson Q1 1921 Toxteth Park Vol 8b Page 177
If you think that's your one.....and it's the only one from 1914 until 1921...believe me I've looked
, if you do order it from GROS it will only tell you the father's name and occupation and their stated ages at marriage. That said, as it's a 1921 marriage you may strike it lucky and have two people aged over 20 and a chance of them appearing in the 1901 census.
Hope it is yours and with any luck it's inthe same administrative district as your MIL's birth, which will make this one more likely.
Good luck
Donna

Re: English Birth Certs.
The marriage date and place should always be there on a Scottish marriage register entry, always assuming, of course, that the parents were married !Miss Poohs wrote:I know on Scottish BCs the parents marriage date is sometimes stated, is this also included on English BCs?

Donna you are a star - I'm just so hopeless with those lists.
I look and look and I think they all just merge after a while - I never seem to catch what I'm after.
I think it has to be them - it's defo promising.
Can't thank you enough. =D>
