There is a Scotish born Henry Dyer living in Cumberland, England in 1841 and 1851 who I suspect is one of the sons of James Dyer (Dyet) and Marion Logan born 16 Mar 1800, Kilwinning, Ayrshire.(1)
I am hoping that I can find a death record for the Henry living in England that will show who is parents are.
In 1841 and 1851 Henry is married to Mary. In 1851 Henry is an Innkeeper. In 1861, I find an Elisabeth who is the right age to be Mary and is a widowed Innkeeper, so I assume Henry died between 1851 and 1861.
Any advice on what I should do or where I should look next?

England Census records are from Ancestry.

Hi Heymarky
You could try a search on the free indexes at www.freebmd.org.uk
If you see a likely candidate, you will then have the reference nos. and district you need to order the certificate from either GRO
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates
or the local register offfice.
Hope this is of some help - my experience with English records is limited, so I'm sure someone else may be able to suggest some other approaches!
Best wishes

Yes, I'm afaid so, that is how it is with English records - to see the "real thing" with any details it holds you will need to order the certificate. If you've not seen an English death cert. before, bear in mind that it is nowhere near as helpful as a Scots one!!the 'scan' is just the index, not the original record...)

Hi
If you can find a marriage for him after 1837 you should at least get his father's name. Don't have time to look just now but will have a gander later if no-one else finds it first.

FWIW:
From census:
Husband (Henry Dyer) & Wife (Mary) both from Scotland (1841 English census), first child born 1819 in Saint Cuthbert, Carslisle, Cumberland. (IGI, Extract)
Father gives his name as Andrew on the IGI. (The Henry that this Henry might be would have had a brother named Andrew, born 1818...)
