thank you so much Annette, I had thought he must have been a figment of my imagination until now. I wasn't even sure where in Ireland they were from so at least I have the county now.
I can also try and trace his death now that I'm not restricted to before 1874 when Jane remarried as a widow!!

I'm posting for the first time here. I was just fascinated by hearing of your relations living at 92 Richard St, Anderston, Glasgow in 1881. In 1891 my relation, Robert McFarlane, was living with his family at 92 Richard St too. It's really interesting seeing the different families that lived there. Folk must have moved around a fair bit, as by the 1911 census he was living in Argyle St, Anderston, where he died in 1917.
