Irish records

Post by billymac » Tue Feb 14, 2023 10:54 pm

Hello all,
I have a query regarding online records for Irish BDM as per the official Irish Genealogy.ie site.
I found that a lot of search results have images that are freely available yet others from the same location and time period are simply Index details as per PRONI. For example I have a birth for a child which occurred in 1866 (Clones reg district) yet his death just 2 years later, at the same place, is only the index information with no image available.
Anybody know why this is so?
Regards,
Bill

There is a list of FAQs on the website https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/images/content/FAQs.pdf
This gives possible reasons for missing images.

Bill,

Deaths from 1864 to 1870 (for all of Ireland) have not been put on-line yet. 10 years ago none of these Irish births, deaths or marriages were on line. They have been gradually added batch by batch. The last remaining batch is the 1864 to 1870 deaths. Someone is working on them (one person) between other duties. They will be on-line eventually but not in the immediate future.

If the death took place in Co. Monaghan you will have to order a copy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon. (They’ll e-mail it to you). If it took place in what is now Northern Ireland (part of the Clones registration are used to include some of Co. Fermanagh) then you can view it on-line on the GRONI website.

You can order a research copy (photocopy) of the civil certificate from GRO Roscommon for €5 (euros). https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-f ... cates.aspx

You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option. You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate:
