Pearce/Pierce Carmidy/Carmody emigrated to America with his second wife, Sarah, and children William, Margaret and Sarah. Although it says Sarah senior was born in Ireland on the ship's passenger list I know from a workhouse record she was born in America and her mother still lives in Ohio.
I know all about Pearce before he left for America but would love to know where he went and what happened to his family. I'm not really finding much in the IGI - can anybody help?
Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette,
You are giving us a challenge by not indicating any dates... but I'm guessing this was the family that sailed from Liverpool to New York in 1858. I'm not readily finding any trace of Pearce after that, but could he have called himself James? There is this family in 1860 who claim to be all from Scotland...
1860
Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio
David Perry, 27, River Engineer, IN
Mary E, 24, Milliner, KY
Charles, 4, OH
Eliza Smith, 22, Milliner, IN
Elizabeth Simkins, 16, Milliner, PA
Julia A Johnson, 40, Seamstress, MD
Sarah Alcorn, 40, Seamstress, NY
Cordelia B Alcorn, 20, VA
James Carmondy, 50, Saddler, Scotland
Sarah Carmondy, 40, Scotland
Mary, 8, Scotland
Sarah, 6, Scotland
Do you know Sarah's maiden name?
Best wishes,
Sarah

Re: Pearce Carmidy USA
Hi Sarah,
Sorry about dates.
Yes you are right about the family leaving in 1858.
I had another look at the workhouse application and discovered a second page. Although Sarah was born around 1813 in Ohio she states her mother, Mary Fo(r?)ster is living at Charlotte, Michigan.
Pearce was born around 1801 at Ireland and was a blacksmith.
Thanks for looking.
Annette

Re: Pearce Carmidy USA
Well, they are certainly an elusive bunch I can't find Pearce anywhere, nor can I find Mary Fo(r)ster. There are two Foster men in Eaton, Eaton County, Michigan (3 miles from Charlotte) in 1850, both born in England -- possibly Sarah's brothers? Their spouses and children were all born in Ohio.
1850
Eaton, Eaton, Michigan
Charles Foster, 25, Farmer, ENG
Mary, 20, OH
Mercy, 2, OH
Sarah M, 2/12, OH
Walter Foster, 22, Farmer, ENG
Jane, 17, OH
William, 1, OH
Sorry, coming up empty handed here
Best,
Sarah

Hi Annette, wish I could have helped but your man doesn't seem to want to be found.
I looked on both Ancestry and FMP and could only find what you already have.
I also noticed someone has a tree on Ancestry who seems to be thin on information on him. That tree follows the son George.
Looks like he's one for the back burner for a bit.
Regards,
Anne

Re: Pearce Carmidy USA
Thanks Anne and Sarah.
He is a friend's ancestor and, although it would have been nice to find more, she is really happy with what's been found so far.
Thanks again,
Annette
