Ship journey.....

Does anyone know how long the voyage would have taken from Glasgow (or thereabouts) to Savannah in Georgia USA? 1860's.

Hi Carmen, completely off the cuff, but I would reckon on a month if things went really well; it´s a bit "uphill" windwise, and the Gulf Stream doesn´t help, so it could have taken three times as long at worst. One barque I have an interest in took six weeks to get out of Liverpool, (adverse winds but with a tug) and then two months to cross the pond to New York. Steamers would at a guess have taken between two and three weeks, but not many of them around then.

Hope this helps,

Thrall
