Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program.
Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program.
Beta Testing of the Pilot program just started. It can be played with here. http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp/search/ The range of newspapers currently available is very limited but it’s interesting to see how it works.
Full details here: http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp/index.html
The National Library of Australia welcomes feedback.

Coverage increasing
I thought it was worth mentioning this again - the coverage seems to be increasing at exponential rates.
I recently found an inquest from SMH online via Google News and thought it must be related to the library work
http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp/
Inclusion in Google News Archive
Articles from the beta service have now been harvested and are available from the Google News Archive Search
If they keep this up I fear I shall get lazier and lazier - no need to even go out to visit the library!!

Hello Scott,
I’m getting along pretty well now thanks very much.
One of my grandmothers has mislaid her father’s father and her mother’s mother which was a bit careless of her but with a lot of luck I may find out what happened to them when the SMH gets rolling. (That’s unless they ran off together).
All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan
I know the library doesn't have the SMH up yet, but I managed to find this page online through google. I was looking for Arthur Murray Welchman - and was somewhat surprised/dismayed at what I found - hope your missing grandfolks aren't found in this fashion!
At the minute I can only refind it by searching the "google news archive"
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ae ... y+welchman
I don't know how much more of the SMH is currently online - my searches don't seem to be finding anything

Hello Trish,
Did you notice the Anti suicide and/or psychologists Ads that cropped up on the right side? Actually with both of mine I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something nasty there. None of the kids of the missing lady seem to have known what their mother’s name was, or didn’t want anyone else to know. The missing fellow was a mariner and most likely sank somewhere that’s if he wasn’t the fellow who shot the sentry outside Victoria Barracks in 1883 (isn’t that what sentries are for?)

I haven’t had a look in Google News yet for Australian kin. I’ll have to give it a go.
