SP Credits from Australia

Post by trish1 » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:15 am

For anyone down under thinking about when to buy SP credits - last week 30 credits cost me $11.55 (including the CC foreign funds charge) - I can buy 5 certificates for $11.60 :D :D

I am about to purchase more - oh that I could buy Australian certs/images for these rates - I just bought a death certificate for a cousin of my gg grandmother's uncle - which solved a lovely puzzle but buying certificates for such distant relatives in Oz (or England) is way past my budget

I have just "Bit the Bullet" and sent away for an English Certificate
at 7.00 Sterling , plus postage.
I hope it has the answers I am looking for.
Having English relatives is expensive !!

Cheers,
Maureen

Hi Momat

Shouldn't cost any extra for postage if you buy online from GRO - and at the moment even 1 english certificate costs me less than anything I can buy in Australia (and is ever so much quicker, despite the distance) - but I certainly can afford to learn more about my Scots than any other group

Do hope you get the good answers

Hi Trish

Thanks for the tip, I may just top up my credits on SP.

I think we all find that the cost "rellie" hunting is expensive no matter where we order certs from, but if this is our chosen hobby then we grin and bear it, any hobby can be expensive.

Most of my family are Irish, Scots, English so I use online ordering from the UK, they only take a week for the GRO to get them in the mail, but the mail delivery is the problem, I may wait 3 weeks sometimes.

Hi Trish
I noticed the other week that the cost of buying credits was for a change in our (Oz) favour, hope it stays down a bit longer  At least until Thursday when I will buy some more :D
When I got my gt granny's English BC the other week it took less that a fortnight to arrive and the 7 quid cost covered everything when purchased online at GRO.

Have to admit to getting carried away - after all a certificate for about $2.30 is a fabulous buy. I made a couple of somewhat wild guesses and was lucky enough to have them correct (looking for a Thomas Scott death between census times does throw up quite a few hits) - but others (including a will) were not correct, so I shall abstain - for a day or two - or until I find some 1855 ones for my folks :D

Trouble I have with "topping up" is I tend to instantly spend - so I shall hope our $ stays high for a little longer.
