Blackwood/McKinlay .....

Post by Scozzie » Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:54 am

My grandfather's sister Christine McKinlay, married a Mr Blackwood (don't know his first name) and they emigrated to New Zealand, probably around the 1920s. They had a son named Craig, I don't know if they had other children or not. Christine was born in Lanarkshire (Lesmahagow) about 1895. Her parents were James and Christina (nee Aird). Siblings were George, William, Robert & Belle, and another sister, don't know her name, may have been Helen or Janet. I believe the other two sisters emigrated to Canada. Any kiwi cousins out there?

Hello...

Do you happen to know what ship they emigrated on, and to which port, and which province they might have settled? I had a look at the NZ white pages online and there are 45 Blackwoods listed in the telephone directories for the South Island.. Didn't check the North Island.....

Also did they marry in Scotland, or elsewhere ? ... and have you tried to get her marriage certificate??

Regards

Stephan

Hi Stephan, I know very little about them. All I know is she is my grandfather's sister, would have been born after 1892, married a Mr Blackwood and emigrated to NZ. Not much to go on, is it? I'm having a stab in the dark that a Kiwi cousin will remember his/her granny's maiden name! A cousin in Scotland thinks they had a son named Craig, but that's not definite.
