Hi All,
I have just seen a reference to a David Robertson Collie in the Australian Electoral Rolls 1903-1954, but cannot get into the actual register.
David Robertson Collie is a name that runs through the family for the first born male child from 1802 through to 1910, so it was with great interest that I see the reference in the Brisbane Electoral Rolls. The first one I have located was born in Edinburgh. There is only one Collie from my ancestry that I know went to New Zealand, and I have him pretty well researched.
Does anyone have access to these and could let me know what they contain, so that I possibly treace ths new addition to my tree?
Many thanks
StuartC

Hi Stuart
If you mean the "Australian Electoral Rolls 1903-1954" on Ancestry, you can access these by taking out a short "pay-as-you-go" sub - see:
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/subscribe/sig ... &TargetId=
"12 record views for 14 days £6.95"
Alternatively, depending on where you are in the world, you may find that your local library perhpas gives free access to Ancestry records (there are several libraries in Scotland which do) - certainly worth checking before paying!
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: David Robertson Collie- Queensland
Hi Stuart
It seems this David lived mainly in the Brisbane area - the Qld BDM indexes are freely available online
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/ ... ndexSearch
David Robertson Collie was born 25 Mar 1899 (outside of Brisbane from the index on CD) his parents William and Jessie Scott reg 1899/004613
You will find many siblings. William and Jessie married 9 Dec 1889
I'm not having any joy finding them in the Brisbane Council cemetery records
http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:BASE::pc=PC_899
There are many private Brisbane cemeteries and also crematoriums
From the BDMs Jessie died in 1944 and probably William (father given as David) in 1947. You could purchase the death certificates for further information - somewhat expensive but lots of details. Parents/children/where married/ length of time in Australia/burial details
Qld immigration indexes (and some other information which may be useful) here
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/indexes.asp
This shows a William Collie - age 21 arriving in July 1884

Re: David Robertson Collie- Queensland
Hi Trish1 & LesleyB
Thanks for all your messages and links.
I have made the connection from David Robertson Collie (b 1899, Brisbane) , to his father William Collie (b 10/01/1863 in Edinburgh, Scotland) and his father David Robertson Collie (b 24/01/1830 in Edinburgh, Scotland).
The marriage index for William Collie and Jessie Scott shows his parents to be David Robertson Collie and Mary Thomson both in my family tree and married in Edinburgh, Scotland.
This is really a great find, as I have his brother John Thomson Collie (b 24/05/1857, Edinburgh Scotland) married in Suva Rewa, Fiji 1896. I also have an other connection to the family in Queensland, and information that says he visited his brother (William) in Australia before he got married in Fiji.
Many thanks again. I might be back for some more links.
Best Regards
StuartC

Hi StuartC
I was at the archives today & checked the film for the shipping for William Collie (whether he be yours of not?) - it was very sparse - only his name and age 21 - which probably indicates he paid his own fare - although it may be that the detailed files have since been lost ( some records were destroyed in the 1893 floods)
The "Crown of Arragon" was listed as leaving Glasgow 18th April 1884, arriving Brisbane July 1884 via Cape of Good Hope. Captain Ferguson, Dr - J E Usher
