The Illustrated London News Historical Archive 1842-2003

Anyone with access to National Library of Australia databases had best occasionally check the list of resources available as new ones appear from time to time. The Illustrated London News Historical Archive 1842-2003, wasn’t there last time I looked. http://www.nla.gov.au/app/eresources/list/licenced

Hi Alan

I do wish they wouldn't index using the word "The" - otherwise I have nothing but praise for the usefulness of the online national library

Oh my! That makes for a long list and also two places to look and likely three - under the word itself, under 'the' and likely under 'a'.

It may be a simple programming or entry error that they may not have noticed. It's not usual practice in an archive or library setting to index materials in that way, so it might be worth checking back with them.

Here’s another new NLA database - Irish Newspaper Archives.
http://www.nla.gov.au/app/eresources/item/4212/

Irish Newspaper Archives is the largest online database of Irish newspapers in the world. The archive dates from 1763 to the present and includes a mix of out of print titles and current titles, providing word-searchable access to articles or full pages. Titles include the Irish Independent (1905 - current), The Freeman's Journal (1763-1924), the Connacht Tribune (1909-2007), the Leitrim Observer (1924- Jan 1976), the Meath Chronicle (1897- April 2005) and the Southern Star (1892-2006).

I had a quick try and it seems to work pretty well.

Hope it’s useful,
Alan
