Qld BDM Update

Post by trish1 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:08 pm

No idea when this happened - I was just checking for a death in Queensland and noticed the online index has been updated

Births 1829-1914
Marriages 1829-1938
Deaths 1829-1983 - up from 1964 - last time I looked. Some of the more recent deaths are missing parent names on the index - they are there for the 1980s so perhaps being updated.

Thanks for that Trish, I’ll have to check out my lot.

That’s births 98 years, marriages 74, and deaths 31 years so far. I read somewhere, a few years ago, that the States were having discussion about a common policy on release of BMD info, but that’s probably long gone out the window with the political bathwater.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan

In terms of buying certificates - open access in Queensland is Births 100, deaths 30 and marriages 75 (this one is 50 in NSW) I used to wonder how to find a death certificate without the access to an index. Then again, at almost $40 each - I don't buy many queensland certificates. In comparison - I had a busy time on SP the last couple of days - for about $20AU I did 13 searches and bought 8 certificates - 3 of the certificates were wrong (2 of them I should have realized said fact) - so each good certificate cost me about $4.

The Qld births to 1914 (and on microfiche they go to 1919) existed before the states had their discussions - and I think most now stay with the 100 years for births - marriages and deaths still seem to vary.

No idea if the change of govt will be good or bad for the registry. My last "discussion" with the minister's office said they were working on a system similar to Victoria - where an image download costs $20 - but that was some time ago.
